The chickens are here

I must admit, I am not the best blogger in the world. I get busy, forget to blog...and then in the middle of the night think, oh I should have written about that! Oh well...So I must bring you up to speed on whats happening down on the Parry Farm!

We have chickens!!! Every house we went to view during our house hunt, I would ask our realtor the same question... Can we have chickens here?  The answer was always no, due to HOAs.  Well, here in the country side...we dont have street lamps, or a city trash service, or city sewer...but we can have chickens (oh and no HOAs).  At first Chris and I couldn't decide if we should get the birds this year, or just wait.  We had been to the tractor supply store and just looked at the chicks, but left and decided to think about it.

A week later, the girls and I just happened to be driving by the tractor supply and decided just to stop in to look at the chickens.  They didn't have many left, and the oohs and awes by the girls got to me, so we bought 6 baby chicks, a heat lamp, food, a waterer and and feeder. Oh happy days!  So that began our chicken adventure.

We looked all over the internet for a good coop.  It was proving to be very difficult to find one that was cute on the outside, practical, and big enough for our girls.  So thats when Chris decided to build one.  With a 400$ budget, and a newly purchased circular saw, he began his construction.

A few weeks later, and 170$ + over budget, the coop is nearly complete.  Oh, and since the coop was much bigger than we had planned on, we bought 8 more girls from The Poultry House in Franklin.  The knew chicks were so much fun to buy, as they had a huge selection to choose from!  So now we have a grand total of 14 girls, who will begin their adventures in the coop this weekend! (well not all of them, a few of them are a bit too small).

We also found out Olivia can begin showing them at the fair when she is 6 through 4H, which she is totally excited about!  Ok, maybe Im more excited than she is lol.  So, we have a new coup, and still no living room furniture. lol.
